Precision Engraving
Laser Part marking, Laser etching information
Size-- The size of the part to be engraved can not exceed 12 X 18” with a height of 5.5”.
The exception to this is if the engraving area is on the end of a longer part ie: a baseball bat.
Materials—Our laser can not cut metal. It will cut wood(up to 7mm thick), plastic, leather, paper, matting,
denim, rubber, delrin and more. It will permanently mark the surface of the above list as well as painted brass, granite, painted/plated steel, glass anodised aluminum and ceramic.
Process—Our co2 class 3 lasers are used for their ultimate precision, reliability as well as their flexibility.
For marking hard material like hardened steel plated or unplated. We use a paint like substance.
When heated up with the laser the combination of pigment and glass is permanently bonded to the
surface of the material in only those areas the remainder is simply wiped off leaving a crisp image.
It does not compromise the plating leaving it intact to protect the part. Therefore it is suggest that all
plating, heat treating and polishing be done prior to the marking process.
Considerations— The shape of the part to be etched can be an issue. The laser needs to focused on the surface of the part
being etched, the range of that focus is only 3mm. Irregularly shaped parts like a ball will be difficult to engrave.
If the part has a step near the spot where the etching is to be placed, the step may not exceed 25mm.
We have extensive experience with these issues. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call.
